Short Story

"Jim Davis is my uncle."

At the time, this lie seemed the best way to explain why I could draw Garfield as a third grader. The truth is - my cousin Jamie taught me. He showed me that the eyes were really just circles. I took his word for it and decided, then and there - I, was an artist. For 8 years I have been teaching middle school students how circles transform into characters, squares become stories and when combined, fine art.

As a teacher and student I have explored diverse mediums of communication; short films, graphic novels, information design, and painting, to name a few. Having succeeded at empowering younger students to develop artistically, I craved my own development and the chance to put all my 'theoretical knowledge' to the test. I believe that in order to teach with credibility, I must establish myself as a proven authority on the subject and in the field.

I must publish my own graphic novels.

I would also like to meet Jim Davis some day...
to apologize for lying.
